iPhone iCalls application

I have already started with the iPhoneSDK for 3G iPhone
iCalls logging and manage all phone calls.( beta ) Version 0.7.0
iPhone’s usage statistic is not so useful. It displays the total call time only.
iCall can check the total incoming and outcoming call limit within the specific date range you choose.
Extract complete selected list and send it to your eMail account.
Select and delete calls.
To install, you need to have a jailbroken iPhone.
iCalls will be available under “Utilities” category.
After installation, make sure you restart the iPhone (switch on and then turn off the iPhone).

man this is a great application and here are some of my idea:
1: options to choose btw round off to minute or count by second.
2: include a section called evenings in the overview section.
some of us have unlimited nights and weekends
eg. unlimited weeknights from 8pm till 7am and unlimited weekends
starting 8pm friday night thru 7am monday morning.
3: white list phone numbers, meaning, outgoing calls or incoming calls based on certain numbers are excluded from the minute/second counts.

Hey my friend. Im glad to have found your application iCall. Its only one step away from being perfect for me.
the problem with my provider is that they calculate the first minute fully and then the next minutes per second. so if i make a call of 40 seconds, i pay for 60. if i make a call of 01:40, i pay for 1:40…
could you do that?

I appear to be having issues where only very few of the contact names actually appear.
i am running 1.1.4 that i pwned with iPlus 2.0b. When i used iPlus i used the international payload which i believe has a phone number formating fix.
i had another look and i noticed that a couple that did have their +xx international code and they did appear.
After a closer look when trying to edit them i spotted that all the phone contacts that have a SPACE, which by the way cannot be deleted, do not list their contact in iCall.
ie; +61(_)4(_)1234(_)5678
Any suggestions?

@ MrCyberdude: I think it’s unlikely for the iplus to have changed the phone numbers after you stored them. Probably it formated their appearance. So it may conflict with iCalls, but I think that’s very unlikely. What version of iCalls you have installed? Try the latest verstion 0.7.0 which fixes a known issue with numbers less than 10 digits. Also try to send the log to your email and tell me how it looks there.
@ firiimen: The date range is editable. Change the dates and change screen (go to incoming or outgoing) and the change will apply.
@ waz: The file sent is an attachment with body text, an icon and the log file. Is there any app blocking permissions to your folders? If there is any, then the file won’t be allowed to be created. Try to search your folders to see if a file CallData.html is there.

I have added this link “http://myapps.110mb.com/iphone.xml” to my source, after refreshing i had a notice telling me to add source “jiggyapp.com/i”. Restarted the phone, hit on the icall icon but it keeps coming back to the home screen.
Is there a patch i have to install for this? i am running on 1.1.4 jailbroken phone.
Pls advice

What a great app you have made
Hi, i am a iPhone user from Thailand.
i found your app is very useful for me and for many of us in Thailand
i have installed iCalls since version 0.6 and it worked fine but then you have updated the iCalls to 0.6.1 and 0.7.0 it could only view the Overview and Setting. Both Incoming and Outgoing menu can’t be viewed then. everytime i pressed those two menu it bring me out to springboard screen
I tested once to see if there is a problem with Thai Fonts and i found that after i installed Thai Fonts i could not viewed Incoming and Outgoing data, Do you think Thai Fonts is the one that cause all this problem and Could you fix that?

Great App!!!!
I tried to select the “@” button on the top it sends an email but its a blank email without any data like Incomming calls or outgoing calls.

@ iRocky: Fonts should not be a problem since the app reads the first time the original db from iPhone log. Greek works fine for instance. But, if the problem is fixed when you uninstall Thai fonts then this causes the problem and I can’t understand why. However at the moment there isn’t any localization plan for the near future.
@ Nilesh: Can you check if the attached file appears when you are sending the email from iPhone? If the attached file appears and then there’s nowhere to be found when you receive the email then maybe your mailer blocks the attached file.
If the file does not appear in the iPhone email app when you are sending it then probably the file did not have permission to be created. Try installing the app from the source here:

From this source the folders get access rights to create all needed files for these features.
At the moment there is a known issue with different repositories not changing the access rights in specific folders that iCalls needs to create files. It will be fixed probably in the next version, but for now install the app from this source or if you are an advanced user change the access rights to the folders that iCalls needs.

Thanks for the reply.
I dont think the mailer is stopping the attachments cause if it was then it the mail would say that hte attachment was blocked.
I think its the permission issue.
When the mail is created to be sent all i see is an iCalls Logo in the mail body.
I tried to add the source http://myapps.110mb.com/iphone.xml in the sources and it was listed under a category called “uncategorised” and could not see in my install -> all packages list.
In terms of chaning the permission could you please guide me what file needs the permission and where would i find hte file? (please excuse me as i am not fully aware of hte file system on the ipone)

Since you added the source from myapps.110mb then you should find the app under the utilities category. Ignore the “uncategorised” category and go to utilities and you should see the app under “utilities” category. You may find 2-3 entries of the app. In that case check the contact to be “JohnG” (which means the app is from this source) and go to “more info” to see if this blog opens from the iphone. If this blog you see here opens then the app is from this source. And then install this app.
In the case you want to manually change permissions of the folder there are two ways to do so. One way is from the PC application called winSCP where you connect to a file manager of your iphone. Navigate to the folder “Applications” find the iCalls folder and set the permissions to read/write/execute. The other way is to do it is from your iPhone. Open “finder” app, press “up” to see the list of the apps, select iCalls and press “modify”. From there set the permissions to read/write/execute.
Hope this solves the problem.

Sorry i have been away, too busy lately.
I’m using version 0.7,
most of the numbers that do not show names
are stored in the contacts list as 11 numbers plus the + symbol.
but i have some longer ones working which makes me think its either
the spaces that show in the contact list or its something to do with
the international package that modifies the number format to give
+61(_)4(_)1234(_)5678 which may be actually stored as 15 characters.
Also attachmants to email are not working for me either.
(before i send it there is no attachment)
under finder for icalls.app i have
R,W,E selected for Owner = root
R,E selected for Group = wheel
R,E selected for Everyone
i wish the version showed on the about page.
i wish the Default Data Range “From Date” was for the last Month.
i wish the “Delete before” was disabled or defaulted to 5 years ago.
Nice software, needs more polishing still.

I have the same problem like Raul, I have iphone 1.1.4 and I just installed i Calls 0.7 but I can not open it. Hit on the icalls icon but it keeps coming back to the home screen.
In the installing proces, a message said: Jiggy Runtime is required for iCalls to run, ad it as a source. I just do it but I still can not open iCalls. Somebody can help me? Sorry for my bad english. Thanks

Sorry but the date range not work… When you close the app and restart, the data range will reset.. MAX 1 DAY.. The range is editable but the change will not work .. :(

i had a look in my email and even though i could not see an attachment when i sent it, i did get the attachment when i received it.
There were still only very few names in the list.
about 1 out of 10 showed the associated name.

As far as the dates resetting to default and the email attachments missing there is only one explanation and so far it’s still a known issue. The different repositories hosting the app don’t set the correct permission rights to the folders needed for iCalls to work properly.
To fix that, there are 3 three ways you can chose to follow:
1) download iCalls from this blog and reinstall it. The xml for the app from this blog changes the permissions as needed.
2 and 3) check the answer to the comment for Nilesh on Friday, May 2, 2008 - 10:31:14.
In this comment you can also read how to check which iCalls is from this xml (xml in this blog).
Also for the dates to stick to what you typed you’ll need to change the permission rights in the path: private/var/mobile/media/icallsfiles/param.cfg.
Change the permissions to read/write/exec both to folder icallsfiles and the file param.cfg.
Manually changing permissions is only for cases (2 and 3) where you won’t download the app from this blog.
Also, when you change a date, go to another screen of the app so the changes can be saved. For now there is no “save” button, but they are saved when you change screen.

I don’t know what may happen and numbers appear like this. There may be a conflict after all. If you can short out, after following the above steps, the problem with the email attachment, try to email a new log to yourself and tell me how the numbers appear there again.
Maybe if you install the app again it will lay over the app that changes the numbers appearance.

I have checked and rechecked the permissions and i will do a reinstall shortly when i get some free time.
A quick inquiry, where do i check via winscp for the phone number storage or lookup for this?
i want to see if its stored differently for the visable numbers.
What i have failed to mention is that i am often in different countries and this may be a related issue.

There is a way to check if there is a conflict with another app.
Donwload this free windows app:

Open Winscp and navigate to the path:
private/var/mobile/library/
/mobile/ or /root/ depending on installation.
Open the folder Addressbook and copy to your computer the file Addressbook.sqlitedb
then
go up one level to the library folder and open the folder CallHistory and copy the file call_history.db
Open SQLite Database Browser then
open Addressbook.sqlitedb, go to browse -> data and open the table ABMultiValue and check the column “value”.
After that open call_history.db and go again browse -> data and open the table call and check the “address” column.
See if the columns “value” and “address” from these different dbs are the same or what kind of differences they have.
In any case in the next version we’ll skip special characters when reading the phones db and column and return only numbers so it may solve this problem.

Really great app you have here! I’m having the same problem as Mr Cyberdude and originally also thought it was the CallData update that was preventing iCalls from reading the names. It appears however that the error is inconsistent because some names appear and some dont even though the Contacts info is exactly the same…
